UTEP Speech Language Pathology

Inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals starts with mentorship. Kasandra Onzures, a first-year graduate student, and Rebecca Lattimore, a faculty member, recently participated in the Rural Healthcare Summer Camp in Alpine, Texas, where they served as counselors and mentors for 28 high school students from rural communities. Through sharing their experiences and promoting the field of speech-language pathology, they helped students explore healthcare career pathways and learn about opportunities to serve rural and underserved populations. 🏜️

Through their leadership, mentorship, and passion for the profession, Kasandra and Rebecca helped raise awareness about the important role speech-language pathologists play in serving diverse populations. Their efforts even inspired several students to express interest in pursuing careers in speech-language pathology! 💬✏️

This week, some of our first-year graduate students arrived at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to participate in a unique research-focused experience. This opportunity will allow them to explore research, connect with faculty and peers, and gain valuable insight that will contribute to their growth as future clinicians. Experiences like these help shape the next generation of professionals by fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
