Class: Still Life
July 8 & 15, 2026 (2 evening sessions)

Explore the timeless tradition of still life through both drawing and painting. Working from arranged compositions, students will develop their observational skills and a deeper understanding of form, light, and composition as they work with a variety of mediums. Emphasis is placed on value, color mixing, perspective, texture, and expressive mark-making.

Through guided demonstration and individual practice, this class offers a supportive environment to build confidence in rendering three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface.

Whether you are a budding artist or an experienced painter, this class offers a nurturing environment to develop your skills and explore your creativity. With guidance from Mary Olsen, founder of Art Start NW and Graphite Arts Center.

This is an explorative class for all levels – beginners to advanced – everyone is welcome to come and make art with us. All supplies are included, but feel free to bring your own supplies and photos of plants you’d like to use in your artwork.
