🚆 What’s Up Wednesday: Railroad Crossing Safety* 🚧
This week’s topic came from ISS field consultant Earl Ellen Boss, who shared a great reminder from a rural project site where active rail lines cross through and around the work area.
Railroad crossings can be easy to overlook, especially when crews travel the same routes every day. But older rural crossings may not have gates, arms, or advanced warning systems, and even controlled crossings can fail.
A few reminders for the field:
🚦 Slow down at every crossing
👀 Look both ways, even if lights are not flashing
🔇 Turn down distractions so you can hear what is happening
🛑 Consider stopping at all rural crossings
🚗 If your vehicle stalls on the tracks, get out immediately and move away from the tracks toward the direction of the oncoming train
Railroad crossing safety may not be a daily toolbox talk topic, but when rail lines are near your project, awareness matters.
