Celebrating a Cascade Legacy: The Colella Family

At Cascade Swim Club, we are proud to be part of a rich tradition of swimming excellence in the Pacific Northwest. Few families represent that history more than the Colellas.

Featured in the June 2026 issue of the University of Washington Magazine, this story highlights Rick, Lynn, Steve, and Pete Colella and the impact their family has had on swimming throughout Washington and beyond. The four siblings built an extraordinary legacy in the sport, with the two oldest Colellas reaching Olympic podiums and the youngest pair earning All-American honors at the University of Washington. Their accomplishments, dedication, and lifelong love for swimming continue to inspire generations of athletes.

For many in our Cascade community, Pete Colella is more than a name in a magazine article. He is a coach, mentor, historian, and passionate advocate for the sport we all love. His commitment to swimming and to sharing its history helps connect our athletes to something much bigger than themselves.

As we continue to build the future of Cascade Swim Club, we also celebrate those who helped shape the swimming community that came before us. We encourage our swimmers and families to learn more about the Colella family's remarkable journey and the legacy they have left on our sport.

Busy weekend of meets and so much fun at the 2026 PN IST Springtime Madness Long Course Challenge ☀️

It was awesome seeing so many of our younger swimmers on deck this weekend as long course season gets going! So many first-time long course swims, first PNS qualifying times, and great racing all around
