New toys!

In order to save money, we often make a number of the larger bird toys ourselves. I get untreated safe wood from Home Depot and cut and drill holes in it, then string it on stainless steel chains.

We have typically left them natural but it seemed like the birds were getting a little bored with that so we found bird safe dye and finally tried our hand at creating colorful blocks for the birbs.

Here's a look at how they turned out. We hope they like them!!!

📅 FRIDAY FEATURED FEATHERS: MEET ELLIOTT (Bogard)!

Welcome to our very first Friday Featured Feathers! (suggested by a follower and my husband) Every week, we will introduce you to one of the incredible birds either available for adoption, in sanctuary, or possibly even personal birds.

This week, the spotlight is on an absolute superstar: Elliott, a stunning Yellow-naped Amazon. 🦜

Yellow-naped Amazons are famous in the parrot world for their intelligence, distinct personalities, and phenomenal talking abilities. Native to Central America, these beautiful green parrots develop a bright yellow patch on the back of their necks as they mature. They are social, charismatic, and thrive in environments where they get plenty of mental stimulation and interaction. They are one of the larger, stockier species of Amazon.

Get to Know Elliott: Elliott is a textbook Amazon with a larger-than-life personality. He is 17 years old and loves to interact.

Favorite Things: Elliott absolutely loves high energy! The quickest way to make him a friend is acting goofy and playing around with him.

Vocabulary: Elliott is quite the conversationalist! He regularly says "Elliott" or "Eli Eli Eliott!", "Good good good BOOOYYY!!!", "Oh my God!", and makes lots of interesting sounds. Luckily his chosen method of vocalization is talking rather than screaming!

Personality: Elliott is confident and likes to hang out outside his cage. He isn't a super cuddle bug as he prefers to be out around you more than being handled.

Ideal Match: Elliott needs a dedicated adopter who understands large parrot behavior including reading body language. He's a fantastic communicator that way and as long as you pay attention, decoding him will be easy! He has a preference for a male caretakers so if there are both genders in the house, don’t be surprised if he prefers the male!

Needs: A spacious cage with plenty of foraging and chewing toys to keep his smart brain busy, plenty of time outside of his cage each day to stretch his wings and socialize, a diet consisting of high-quality pellets, fresh vegetables, and occasional fruit treats.

If you are looking for a lifelong companion who will keep you laughing and entertained every single day but that you don't need to snuggle a lot, Elliott might be the perfect match for you!
