The Fourth of July can be a time of celebration—but for many people in recovery, it can also bring added stress, temptation and unexpected challenges.
Recovery isn't about avoiding life. It's about building the confidence, support and coping skills to navigate life's biggest moments—holidays included. Whether you're attending a cookout, watching fireworks or choosing to spend the day somewhere that feels safer, every decision you make to protect your recovery is a victory.
If this holiday feels overwhelming, remember that you don't have to face it alone. Reach out to your support network, lean on your treatment team and give yourself permission to prioritize your well-being.
Recovery is something worth celebrating—today and every day.

For almost 40 years, our Pride Program and LGBTQ+ focused services have helped thousands of individuals find recovery, support and community in Minnesota.
This legacy continues to shape the care we provide today. Foundations Minnesota remains committed to providing affirming, evidence-based care for LGBTQ+ individuals through our Minneapolis outpatient programs, continuing a legacy built on dignity, inclusion and hope.
This Pride Month, we honor the lives impacted, the community built and the ongoing importance of safe, supportive recovery spaces for all.

Thank you to Saari from Wayside Recovery for putting on a great event and to Samantha from AMFM Mental Health and Addiction for sharing your story. Choosing to take the first steps to recovery is hard, whether it is residential or outpatient, but it is possible. We are all in this together.

From Alicia - "Holidays can often times be a huge trigger, especially in early recovery. Creating a relapse prevention plan with your sponsor or counselor is a great way to play the tape forward without experiencing possible negative consequences. Also, for Memorial Day Weekend, my sober tip is to VOLUNTEER. There are plenty of ways to help out your local community and veterans! Which in turn, will make a meaningful, and lasting impact that will give you feeling no substance ever could! 🙂"
