that Michigan Agricultural College hosted events in honor of Memorial Day? This poster from 1901 announced the events to be held on campus. The MSU Archives wishes you a day of remembrance and gratitude on Memorial Day.

in 1976 an American Spruce was planted at the Michigan Capitol in honor of the United States Bicentennial. The text on the back of the photograph reads: "Planting of an American Spruce on the lawn of the Michigan Capital in Lansing on May 11, 1976." Left to right are pictured: Dr. Lee James, chairman of the MSU Department of Forestry; Governor William G. Milliken of Michigan; MSU President Clifton R. Wharton, Jr., and Dr. James Hanover, professor of forestry at MSU and developer of the American Spruce.
