🎇 July 4th Safety Week – July 4th Safety 🎇
Happy 4th of July! Today marks a monumental milestone in our nation’s history as we celebrate 250 years of American independence!
The Fourth of July is a time for festivities, fun, celebration, and fellowship with friends and family. With all the exciting activities this holiday brings, making safety a priority is everyone’s responsibility!
For Saturday’s July 4th Safety Week, let’s take a closer look at July 4th Safety!
❗️Tonight, the City of Easley will be displaying fireworks at approximately 9:30 p.m.❗️
If you plan to attend the Historic Easley 4th of July Celebration, please come prepared. The heat and humidity today are expected to be extreme. Be sure to stay hydrated before and during the celebration, and keep an eye on children, older adults, and others who may be more susceptible to the heat.
The Easley Fire Department has a cooling station set up at our tent near W. 1st Street.
❗️If you choose to celebrate at home this evening, please make safety your number one priority!❗️
• Only use legal fireworks and follow all instructions on the label.
• Keep a bucket of water, garden hose, or fire extinguisher nearby before lighting fireworks.
• Always have an adult supervise fireworks. Never allow young children to light or handle them.
• Never relight a firework that doesn’t go off. Wait at least 20 minutes, then soak it in water before disposing of it.
• Light one firework at a time and move away quickly after lighting it.
• Keep fireworks away from homes, vehicles, dry grass, trees, and other combustible materials.
• After the show, soak all used and unused fireworks in a bucket of water overnight. Once completely soaked, place them in a plastic bag before disposing of them in your regular household trash.
• Before heading inside, check your yard and surrounding area for any smoldering debris or small spot fires.
From all of us at the Easley Fire Department, we wish you and your family a joyful, memorable, and safe Independence Day!

❗️July 4th Safety Week- Smoke Alarms❗️
As we continue to get closer to July 4th, ensuring that your residence has properly working smoke alarms is a high priority. For Tuesday's July 4th Safety Week, let's take a closer look at smoke alarms!!
Smoke alarms are an important part in your home fire escape plan. Nearly 3 out of 5 home fire related deaths happened in homes with improperly working smoke alarms. In the event of a house fire, you have less than 2 minutes to exit the residence after the alarm has sounded.
Having just one smoke alarm inside your house could provide you and others with early detection of smoke and provide the essential seconds to get out. We recommend changing your smoke alarm battery’s every six months and changing the alarm itself every 10 years.
As we approach the 4th of July, now is a great time to ensure that your residence has properly working smoke alarms!! Check to make sure the alarm is functioning properly, in date, and has fresh batteries.
When you check your smoke alarms, we recommend reviewing what to do in the event of a fire with the people you live with! Review home fire escape plan, outdoor meeting points, and ensure that everyone GETS OUT AND STAYS OUT!
