Every morning after I feed Louie, I head out to my spa with my coffee and a few quiet moments before the day begins. And every morning, almost without fail, as soon as he’s done eating, he peeks his head around the corner just to make sure I’m still there. Once he sees me, he goes right back to whatever dog business he has planned for the morning.
Today, I decided to capture it on video because it reminded me of something deeper.
As babies and little children, we don’t need constant reassurance that everything is okay. We simply need to know Mom is nearby. Her presence alone brings peace. We see her, we know she’s there, and suddenly the world feels safe again.
That simple moment made me think about a few things.
First, this season of singleness. There isn’t someone here every morning to give me a hug, tell me to keep going, or check in on how I’m doing. No one is asking, “Did you take your vitamins today?” or “Are you making it to the gym?” or “How are you really doing?”
But maybe that’s my reminder to do those things for myself.
To check in with myself. To encourage myself. To celebrate the small wins. To be my own cheerleader.
To ask, “How are you doing this morning?” and actually listen to the answer.
The second thing it reminded me of is God.
Sometimes, because we can’t physically see Him, we wonder if He sees us. We run back to Him when life feels uncertain, when prayers seem unanswered, or when circumstances don’t make sense. Like Louie peeking around the corner, we just want reassurance that He’s still there because He said He would be.
And every time we look, we find that He is by little glimpses of things He does to remind us. He’s still here.
He hasn’t moved. He hasn’t forgotten. He hasn’t left.
His presence is still the source of our peace.
Maybe today we all need a little reminder to peek around the corner and remember: we’re not alone.
Be your biggest cheerleader. It brings peace. ❤️
