Local, organic, and exceptionally sweet. Asparagus from is finally here! It’s a late start to the season because of some frosts in early April, just as the first spears were emerging. This is the freshest asparagus you’ll ever have the pleasure of tasting (unless you grew your own). 💚💚💚💚

Good Saturday morning! I’m here with an update from Local Roots Farm . I know a lot of you have been wondering when the first real spring produce will be coming into the shop! Here’s the deal: normally April is a month of abundant, tender baby salad greens, arugula, and radishes. We grow these crops in our protected who houses before transitioning those houses to tomatoes and peppers for the main growing season. Unfortunately, two big successions of hoophouse crops were flooded out in March. After the flood water is receded, we needed to wait for the soil to dry out before tilling and re-seeding those hoophouses. Those are the crops you see in these pictures and they are still a couple weeks away from being ready to harvest. We’re also getting into asparagus season, but the earliest spears were damaged by frost in early April so we’re still waiting on that as well. It’s been a weird spring so far!! We are thankful to have some green odds and ends coming to us via the Puget Sound Food Hub and Farmstand Local Foods, like overwintered cauliflower, Purple sprouting broccoli, rainbow chard, and fresh herbs. Hang in there! The arugula and radishes are coming!
