Today during public comment at the Durham DSS Board meeting, we shared an excerpt from the book How to End Family Policing: From Outrage to Action and spoke truth to power.

The history of the system is very well documented. The foundation it was built on. The harm that continues by design, not by accident.

This is a call in to those working inside the system: you can’t keep saying you don’t know. The information is there. The impact is clear. What you do with the knowledge is a choice.

If you believe families deserve better than surveillance and separation, lean in. Listen.

The failures of the Person County foster care system keep coming to light ‼️

Yesterday, we were also at the Person County Commissioner meeting to support a young woman who recently aged out of foster care after enduring years of trauma. For years, she spoke up. She reported what was happening to the very people who were paid to protect her — and she was ignored.

This is how the family policing system survives. It’s protected by the belief that it’s “saving children,” while the voices of those harmed by it are muted, dismissed, or manipulated. Children are expected to stay silent. Survivors are expected to move on.

But what happens when the children raised in this system grow up and start telling the truth❓
What happens when the public starts listening❓
What happens when the scrutiny doesn’t go away❓

All eyes should be on Person County government as we continue to demand justice for Kemari — and for every child this system has failed.

Durham county commissioners (Nida Allam & Wendy Jacobs doesn’t let people tag them 🤔) why did you authorize the county to file this no contact order?

Durham residents raising concerns about the family policing system and its impact on families should not be silenced simply because the message is uncomfortable to hear.
