I’m grateful to have won my third Emmy, for my live reporting on the shooting inside a North Hills restaurant. The category was for “Evening Newscast.”

The newscast began with my story, featuring an exclusive interview with the surviving victim.

I’m grateful to him for sharing his story with me, so that we could give him a voice and better inform our viewers about what really happened that day which, until then, was largely a mystery.

The shooting is a tragedy that still affects many families, most notably that of Jonathan Schaffer, who was killed.

Only on WRAL TV: New development is on hold in part of East Durham, because the sewer system there is “at full capacity.”

A fix is years away.

I spoke with landowners who say the City never notified them, and with the City Manager about what went wrong.

I’m grateful for the honor of taking home three first place awards today for Investigative Reporter of the Year, the AP Freedom Award (for public records reporting), and in the Social Reform category alongside my coworkers Heidi Kirk, Carly Haynes and Randall Kerr.
