Today, the Center acknowledges the fathers out there who spent so many years separated from their loved ones due to injustice. We will continue to fight every day to correct those wrongs. In honor of Father’s Day, donate today to help bring a father home! https://nccai.org/ 💗

Today would have been our dear friend and former client’s 82st birthday.

Joseph Sledge was wrongfully incarcerated for 38 years for a double murder he did not commit. In 2015, the Center represented Joseph at a hearing in which his conviction was overturned, and he was declared innocent.

Joseph passed away in 2020, after only five years of freedom. The Center honors his memory through the Joseph Sledge Houses of Healing, two reentry homes built in collaboration with to provide living space and support for exonerees. Visit our website, www.nccai.org, to donate to Joseph’s memory and support others in their reentry.

Your memory lives on, Joe. đź’–

The Center is a proud recipient of a grant award from the South Carolina Bar Foundation for the 2026-2027 grant cycle. Funds will be used to continue the Center's expanded mission to identify and correct wrongful convictions in South Carolina. There is much work to do in South Carolina, and we appreciate the South Carolina Bar Foundation’s commitment to our work and its citizens. Thank you!
