I don’t like to be rushed through meals, especially dinner. I’d love for Americans to adopt the European habit of not just cocktails, but aperitifs and digestifs, low-alcohol beverages created specifically to whet the appetite (aperitifs) before meals and aid digestion (digestifs) after. They also have the side effect of slowing the pace of the meal so you can properly enjoy the food—and the company.
