For thirty years, Viola lived with painful, ill-fitting dentures that made her so sick she nearly passed out. It started with a car accident. It lasted three decades. And somewhere along the way, she stopped believing it could get better.

Then she walked through our door.

"The reception was wonderful. Dr. Serag was awesome. Everybody on the staff made me feel so good and relaxed. I felt like there was hope."

After a thorough evaluation, our team determined that Viola's snap-in overdentures were not the right fit for her. She wanted something permanent, something she wouldn't have to take in and out. Together, we decided on a fixed implant denture — upper and lower.

After her procedure, Viola smiled and said: "I feel like I can fly. I can eat what I want now. So I'm so happy."

This is the work. This is why we exist.

Read Viola's full story at the link below, and if her experience sounds familiar, we'd love to meet you.

What dentists actually learn at SIDE.

The Southeast Institute for Dental Education runs six course tracks, each designed for a different level of experience and clinical focus:

Beginner Single Implant Placement — a two-day course for dentists starting their surgical implant journey, focused on posterior single implant placement in healed sites.

Surgical and Restorative Single Implant — for dentists with foundational implant experience who want to expand into a more diverse range of implant procedures.

Surgical and Restorative Overdenture — designed for dentists experienced in oral surgery who want to add implant-supported overdenture cases.

Surgical and Restorative Fixed-Hybrid — an advanced course in full-arch fixed-hybrid restoration.

Small-Group Single Implant or Overdenture Case — focused mentorship on a specific case type.

Extraction and Socket Preservation — intensive training in advanced extraction techniques and socket preservation, with applications for implant planning.

All courses are AGD PACE approved for continuing education credit and taught at our Durham facility by Dr. Mahmoud Serag and faculty.

Each track exists because there's a real gap in practicing dentists' training — procedures most general dentists were never taught hands-on during dental school, but encounter in their practice and want to bring in-house rather than refer out. SIDE was built to close that gap.
