Meet Joe Schafer | Mixed Media Painter ✨

Based in Durango, CO, Joe Schafer is a husband, father of two, and full-time fine artist whose journey began after a career as a custom finish painter. In 2018, he followed his creative calling and has since been crafting powerful, layered paintings from his studio at the Smiley Building’s ArtRoom Collective.

Joe’s work captures the spirit of the land—whether it’s the drama of a rugged mountain ridge, the vastness of desert horizons, or the quiet beauty of a dawning sky. Through texture, light, and shadow, his mixed media paintings bridge realism and abstraction, inviting viewers to connect deeply with place, memory, and imagination.

🌄 Come experience Joe’s contemporary landscapes during the Durango Open Studio Tour!
