After 36 years of service, today marks the retirement of Chief Sal Marchese. Rising through the ranks from Patrolman to Chief, Sal has been a steady presence in our community and a leader within the Dunmore Police Department for decades.
People see Dunmore as a small town, but the job is anything but small. The issues our officers deal with are difficult...physically and emotionally...and that carries over to their families as well. Being Chief isn’t a 9–5 job. It’s 24/7/365. The phone is never off. Sal has earned this time to step back and spend it with his family.
I want to personally thank him for his commitment to Dunmore and wish him all the best in retirement. It’s well deserved.

A few of the memorial benches for our pocket park have finally been delivered, and they look great!
Thank you to the family and friends of Joe Conway, Brian Hoppel, and Kelcey Hallinan for honoring their memories through these beautiful benches. Their generosity will help make our downtown a more welcoming place for years to come.
If you would like to donate a memorial bench or support additional improvements to our downtown, please consider supporting the great work being done by the Dunmore Lions Club. For information on donating benches, please call Jim Colangelo at (570) 466-5058.

The Borough recently completed improvements to our community space in the corners, and we will be placing a limited number of memorial benches around the space.
Families will have the opportunity to dedicate a bench in memory of a loved one that will remain part of the park for years to come. The cost simply covers the cost of the bench and installation.
I also want to recognize the Dunmore Lions Club, who are doing a wonderful project installing memorial benches throughout our downtown. Their program helps support the Lions Club’s charitable work in our community, and we’re grateful for the impact they continue to have in Dunmore.
Benches are limited. If you are interested in dedicating a bench in the pocket park, please call the number listed on the flyer directly for more information.
Picnic tables are also available to be donated. If you are interested in dedicating a table, please contact the factory directly for details.

Last night Borough Council recognized Officer Daniel Kapacs with a promotion to Sergeant as he prepares to retire after 35 years of service to Dunmore. Dan also proudly served our country in the United States military, and throughout his career he represented our department with professionalism and pride. We thank Sgt. Kapacs for his dedication to our community and wish him the very best in retirement!
