The Radisson in Duluth, MN, played host to Essbie for dinner on its top floor, offering a stunning 360-degree view of the city as the dining room rotated. The cold weather did little to detract from the beauty of Duluth's lights.

Happy New Year everyone, and Happy National Bloody Mary Day!

Did you know this famous drink is considered one of the world's most popular hangover cures? Perfect timing, right?

The story goes that it was first mixed up in Paris way back in 1921. It didn't make its way over to the United States until after Prohibition ended. Back then, it wasn't called a Bloody Mary. It had some pretty intense names like "Bucket of Blood'' and was also known as the "Red Snapper.''

So where did "Bloody Mary" come from?
Well, one theory links it to Queen Mary Tudor of England, who got the nickname for her brutal persecution of Protestants. A slightly less grim theory is that it was simply named after the bartender's girlfriend, Mary.

Whichever story is true, it's a fascinating history for a classic drink. Cheers to that!

Thanks National Day Calendar for the inspiration!
