"Ojibway Lake Sunrise" - Captured near Ely, MN

I didn't particularly feel like getting up at 4:30 a.m. for the third morning in a row and then paddling several miles before photographing sunrise. I had even scouted another much easier location that was only a short walk from my car, but I felt like the lake was calling to me and decided to slide my canoe into the water. It was a glass-calm morning; the kind where you almost feel guilty breaking the silence with the sound of your paddle. This image was captured just as the first light of day struck the tree tops.

"Marsh Sunrise" - Captured in the Superior National Forest

At the time I was making this image I didn't think it was all that great of a sunrise. When you're looking through a head net and being swarmed by ravenous mosquitoes that tens to dampen the experience! I'm glad I stuck it out and was able to capture this remarkable light.
