Meet our Duluth Whiskey Project litter! 🥃🐾
These adorable pups will be 8 weeks old on Thursday and are ready to start searching for their forever families! Come meet them at Duluth Whiskey Project on Thursday, June 4th from 3pm to 7pm.
While we don’t know exactly what breeds make up this litter, their mom is a cattle dog mix who came to us from Bemidji. Based on mom’s size and what we’re seeing so far, we estimate these puppies may grow to be around 50 pounds or so full grown, though cannot guarantee that.
They are sweet, playful, and full of personality, and we’d love for you to stop by the event and meet them. As always, approved applications are required before adoption, but events are a great opportunity to get to know the puppies and chat with our volunteers.

🚨 Immediate Intake Closure 🚨
Over the last few months, we have taken in a large number of animals, including many moms and litters needing immediate help. While we are incredibly grateful that we were able to step in for so many, the reality is that our vet bills have become astronomical and our foster availability is at one of the lowest points we have seen in a long time.
We currently have over 85 animals in rescue when we normally average around 45-50 at any given time.
Summer is here, many of our fosters have vacations, family plans, and schedule changes, and we simply cannot continue operating beyond our capacity without risking burnout for our volunteers and inadequate resources for the animals already in our care.
As difficult as this decision is, PJ’s Rescue will be closing intake immediately except for true emergencies. This pause will allow us to focus on the animals currently depending on us while we work to stabilize our foster network and financial resources.
We hate having to say no. Every volunteer here wishes we could help every animal that needs us. But responsible rescue also means recognizing when we need to pause, regroup, and ensure the animals already in our care continue receiving the care they deserve.
We are currently working on reconciling outstanding balances with our partner veterinarians and will be posting donation opportunities and medical fundraisers in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, one of the most impactful ways you can help is by adopting, fostering, donating, or simply sharing our posts. Every share helps our animals reach potential adopters and creates much-needed space within rescue. Check out some of our animals who have been waiting the longest below!
Thank you to everyone who continues supporting PJ’s Rescue, our fosters, volunteers, adopters, veterinary partners, and community. We truly could not do this without you.

Meet Suzie ✨
Suzie is an adorable little Shih Tzu estimated to be around 5–7 years old, and after spending the last month settling into foster care, we’ve learned she’s the kind of dog who bonds deeply with her people once she feels safe and understood.
This sweet girl loves going for walks, gets the cutest little zoomies and spins when she’s excited, and has a nice moderate energy level. She’s happiest in a quieter home where life is predictable and calm. Suzie is looking for someone who is home often and willing to give her the patience and reassurance she needs while continuing to build trust.
She prefers having her person nearby when outside and likes companionship over independence. Suzie does not enjoy closed kennels, but the good news is she really doesn’t need one. She’s content simply hanging out near her people.
Other dogs may be okay as long as they respect her space and don’t expect her to play. She has shown some interest in toys and exploring, but she’s more of a quiet companion than a social butterfly. Cats are likely not a good fit for her.
Suzie may take a little time to settle in, but underneath that cautious exterior is a devoted, loving little dog who just wants to feel safe and loved. If you’re looking for a loyal companion and understand that trust is earned, not rushed, Suzie could be your perfect match. ❤️
13 lbs of love… and adorable little excited circles included.

Meet Miss Lexus! 👑
Lexus is a sweet, gentle soul who takes the "slow and steady" approach to new people. While she can be a bit shy and nervous at first, she is entirely worth the patience. Once she knows she is safe, her true colors shine, and you’ll get to see just how loyal and loving she really is. Because of this, multiple meet & greets may be necessary.
Lexus is already house and crate trained. She loves her current foster family that consists of men, women, and children, and she is friendly with both other dogs and cats. She truly is the ultimate all-around companion.
While she is content in her crate during the day, she prefers to snooze right by your side in bed at night.
If you have a little patience to spare and a spot on your mattress to share, Lexus might just be your perfect match! 💜
