Technical Tuesday!
Just wanted to share a few helpful tips on one of my favorite exercises the sumo deadlifts.
โข ๐ฆถfoot position varies from person to person but a good starting point is feet past shoulder width with toes flared out pointing to the top of a standard 45lb plate.
โข ๐hand position on the bar is typically placed below the shoulder (I do double over grip but you may do alternate)
โข ๐ tip is to generate tension and how I like to explain it as pulling the slack out of the bar and setting the hips down and roll the shoulders back to keep it all together. By creating the tension we can more effectively pull the weight off the floor and do it safely.
โขLastly as you reach the top avoid leaning back or overextending. This extra movement will affect your lower back and is unnecessary to the lift, instead hip thrust into the bar and keep bar close to the body.
There are many other helpful tips not mentioned but always practice safe lifts and donโt be afraid to ask for help!!! ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ๐๏ธ๐ช
