Trucking jobs went up in October, with transportation employment as a whole experiencing a modest monthly increase 📈

Some figures:
🔹 According to the latest numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 13,000 trucking jobs were added to the economy in October.
🔹 Revised numbers show a decrease of 9,500 trucking jobs in September and an increase of 5,000 jobs in August.
🔹 Year to date, trucking employment is still up by more than 62,000 jobs.

Wages continue to rise 📈 in truck transportation. The hourly wage for all employees in the sector rose to $29.70, up from $29.50. For production and nonsupervisory employees, it rose more, to $28.21 from $27.88.

Even with that increase in wages, the Producer Price Index (PPI) for the truck transportation sector — possibly as a result of lower diesel costs — declined 0.5% 📉

The upward move in truck transportation wages contrasted with what happened in warehouses 📦, where the wages for all employees declined 2 cents to $22.39. For production and nonsupervisory employees, it was a 5-cent decline to $21.39. The PPI in warehouses rose 0.2%.

What should truck drivers do when they spot an emergency. 🚨‼️

If you find yourself in an emergency situation, follow these simple steps:

⭕️ Step 1 – Take care of yourself first. 💯
Don’t become part of the emergency. Stop your truck at least a few meters away from the occurrence. Turn on your turn signals and place reflective triangles⚠️ to warn oncoming motorists.

This creates space for emergency vehicles🚑 and protects people who might get out of their vehicles. In life emergencies, do not move bodies unless you have excellent first aid experience.

⭕️ Step 2 — Call 911. 🚨
Try to find out the address where the situation occurred before making the call.The street/highway you are on and the address, an exit number or the name of a nearby street, a mile marker. In some cases the coordinates can help.

If it is a vehicle you will need a description with make/model, color and number plate if you can safely get it.

⭕️ Step 3 — Call your dispatch. ☎️
Your company needs to know where you are and why you may be delayed.
Also, providing the videos and images📸 from other electronic devices can also help law enforcement and can later assist motor carriers with civil cases, staged crashes, and insurance claims.
