Diesel oil gets beat up in ways gas engines don’t even come close. It runs hotter. It picks up more soot. It handles more pressure. So yeah, your diesel can go longer between changes, but only if you’re using the right oil and staying on top of it. Wait too long, and it turns thick, sludgy, and dangerous.

Want your diesel to last? Respect the oil.

If your diesel smells hot and sharp after parking — kind of like burnt metal or melted plastic — that’s probably a regen cycle finishing up. It’s normal. The DPF (diesel particulate filter) just burned off soot at high temps, and that heat lingers. Nothing to panic about, but if the smell sticks around too long or the truck starts running rough, that’s when we take a closer look.

Summer heat and heavy towing don’t mix well if your diesel’s overdue for service. Long climbs, hot pavement, and full trailers put extra stress on your cooling system, trans, and turbo. If it’s been a while since your last checkup, now’s the time before the summer begins!
