A note from our co-owner Yauss Berenji⁣
〰️⁣
I wish my father was alive to witness the strength of the Iranian people in this moment. He longed for the day when our people could reclaim their freedom and their country. The deep sense of pride my sister and I feel is a result of his efforts to teach us about the rich history of Iran, where we came from. He made sure we understood what was happening, as a result of the revolution, and that the present day Iran is not the Iran of the people. ⁣

We, as a collective (globally) are a people as prolific and beautiful as our culture. You may have a pre-conceived notion of Iran because what you learn is not about our rich culture or our full history. You learn about the last 43 years, a post revolution Iran. Do not mistake our identity or our values as Iranian people. This regime wants to erase our culture and our humanity, by any means necessary. ⁣

This is not the first time the people of Iran have taken to the streets in protest. This is not the first time innocent free thinking people have died fighting for their freedom. This is not the first time women have risked their life for individuality. This is however the first time in 43 years that the people of Iran are continuing to make global news but the coverage is not enough. Our people need your help to spread their voices when they cannot. ⁣

To my non-Iranian friends who have used social media as a platform to highlight social injustices, I’m asking/begging you to help flood social media to bring the violence and inhumanity to the forefront for change. To protect the women, the lives of innocent people, and their freedom. ⁣

To my non-Iranian friends who know me personally, those of you who I have shared my culture with through food or conversation, I am personally asking you to help elevate the voices of my people through your platforms. Free will and human rights should not be based on demographics. ⁣

✊🏽 women. life. freedom.

That’s a large number of people y’all. We have to break the stigma and have the conversations about mental health concerns. There is so much fear around being outward when talking about mental health. It’s been engrained in us, most of us, that it signifies weakness. We are here to tell you it does not, and that you’re not alone. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Now more than ever, we need to hold each other, check on each other, and show appreciation for your people. If you need a friend, come see us. If you need someone who will be an ear or a shoulder to cry on, come see us. It’s okay to not be okay. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Be safe. Be kind. Love y’all 💕⁣⁣
