🎬 Interesting Fact: ​Tangled (2010) — This movie was Disney’s first major foray into 3D computer animation that aimed to replicate the soft, painterly look of traditional hand-drawn films, specifically inspired by Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s “The Swing.” The production team spent years developing a specialized rendering technique to give the world a more organic and “non-photorealistic” feel, which is beautifully captured in the scenic vistas of Rapunzel’s tower. To manage the movement of Rapunzel’s 70 feet of golden hair, a brand-new software called “Dynamic Wires” was engineered, as previous technology could not handle such extreme length and complexity. This movie effectively merged the classic fairy tale aesthetic with cutting-edge digital craftsmanship, setting a new standard for future Disney animations. The character of Flynn Rider, shown in this video, was the result of a unique creative process known as the “Hot Man Meeting,” where female staff members at Disney voted on features to create the most attractive male lead. Interestingly, the tower where Rapunzel lives was designed to look like the most comfortable “prison” imaginable, filled with art and light to reflect her creative spirit despite her confinement. This movie was also the most expensive animated feature ever made at the time of its release, with a budget of approximately 260 million dollars due to its six-year production cycle. Every expression on Flynn’s face in this sequence was hand-polished by animators to ensure his charm and comedic timing felt as fluid as possible. The legendary composer Alan Menken used 1960s folk-rock as a primary influence for the movie’s soundtrack to give Rapunzel’s world a fresh and modern musical identity.
