Just because someone has great technical, hands-on job skills does not mean that they have great – or even good – communication, conflict resolution, goal setting, or leadership skills. For most individuals, leadership and good management skills are not inborn. Organizations need to take the time and invest the resources to develop supervisors and managers.
Those resources can include training, coaching, 360 degree feedback surveys and more.
What tools have been working well to develop supervisors in your organization?

Compensation used to be the top concern among job candidates. Now, things like flexibility, hybrid work models and other areas are the big questions candidates ask first. And employers need to figure out what those questions will be ahead of time and be ready to answer them.
Jackie Throop, Director of Engage HR at HR Source, weighed in on the discussion during a recent panel conducted by the Best and Brightest Programs and Corp! This question has repeatedly come up during our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Exchange discussions with our members.
How can we create a DEI committee that can effectively champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace?
While not simple to do, the following steps are a good start:
1. As with any DEI initiative, you have to obtain leadership buy-in first.
2. Find committee members who are passionate about DEI and have knowledge of the topic.
3. Ensure the committee has a budget.
4. Just as you do with any other business initiative, ensure you set clear obtainable goals related to what you want to accomplish.
5. Periodically, evaluate the work you are doing.
6. Finally, share your successes. Just as you do with other workplace goals, when things have gone well and you’ve seen success, celebrate and share that with others in the workplace. This will help ensure the work you do is seen as effective and is also valued and appreciated.
