Back to Bowers Beach
So if you missed the Bowers Beach Buccaneer Bash on Memorial Day Weekend – as all potential pirates did due to its storm-safety cancellation – all is not lost. Tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, we’re all invited to celebrate the Bowers Beach Maritime Museum’s 50th Birthday. Although it’s strictly pirate-optional and a far more intimate occasion, the noon-to-4 p.m. celebration offers a great opportunity to explore the town’s big maritime past in the expanded museum at 19 Williams Ave., 19946 – and try your hand at the bocce courts.

Rodney’s New Route
Caesar Rodney rides again as 250Ride.org creates “a living tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and unity that shaped America’s independence.” No one knows Rodney’s 1776 route from his home near Dover to Philly to vote for independence, breaking our state delegates’ tie. Tomorrow, June 12, Rodney – portrayed by attorney Ciro Poppiti – joins an 11 a.m. public service at Christ Church in Dover and a ticketed 6-9 p.m. 250 Ride Gala at Middletown-area Thousand Acre Farms. On Saturday, June 13, he rides up U.S. 13 to Separation Day in New Castle, then on to Philly. With his visits, other reenactors share “Unheard Voices of the Revolution.”

Super-Separation Day
This Friday and Saturday, June 12-13, New Castle is the place to be for Delawareans to celebrate our 250 years of “not being Pennsylvania” – no offense to our modern Keystone State friends and neighbors. Friday night’s 6-8:30 p.m. Separation Day festivities include live music, food and drink, while Saturday kicks off at noon with a Colonial-inspired parade, including the Caesar Rodney Ride 250 Reenactment with attorney Ciro Poppiti portraying the patriot. The day of live music, kids’ rides, an artisan/vintage market, community groups’ food sales, a beer garden and historic site visiting winds up with a fireworks show over the Delaware River.
