Australia’s financial regulator has issued a warning that banks are falling behind rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, highlighting that frontier AI systems could significantly escalate the scale, speed, and sophistication of cyber attacks. The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) noted that existing information security frameworks are struggling to keep pace with the accelerating evolution of AI technologies.
The regulator emphasized that advanced models like Anthropic’s Claude Mythos may empower malicious actors to detect vulnerabilities more efficiently, increasing cybersecurity risks across the financial sector. With its high-level coding capabilities, the system presents unprecedented potential to uncover system weaknesses, raising serious concerns among experts.
APRA further stressed the urgent need for a major upgrade in cybersecurity strategies, as financial institutions face a rapidly evolving threat landscape driven by cutting-edge AI innovation.

Pakistan has launched an indigenous automated web monitoring system to reinforce the cybersecurity of government websites and online applications in response to the growing cyber threats targeting the country’s digital infrastructure.
According to an official document, cybersecurity risks against Pakistan’s government web infrastructure have significantly increased, prompting authorities to deploy the locally developed monitoring platform under the CERT Directorate. The system aims to enhance digital protection, threat detection, and cyber resilience for official online services nationwide.
The advanced cybersecurity monitoring system provides continuous 24/7 surveillance of more than 1,500 government websites and applications across Pakistan. With real-time cyberattack detection, the platform enables authorities to identify and respond to security breaches immediately, minimizing potential damage to critical national digital infrastructure.
The system can instantly detect cybersecurity threats such as website defacement, script injection attacks, and sensitive data leaks. Through early threat detection and rapid response mechanisms, cybersecurity teams can prevent large-scale cyberattacks and service disruptions, ensuring uninterrupted public access to government platforms.
Additionally, the platform generates automated security alerts that are instantly sent to relevant departments whenever a cyber threat is identified. This early warning mechanism enables institutions to take swift preventive action, reducing the risk of data breaches, system vulnerabilities, and operational downtime.
Currently, 1,527 government and strategic websites are under continuous cybersecurity monitoring. These include 407 federal government websites, 209 from Punjab, 282 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 174 from Sindh, 108 from Balochistan, 51 from Gilgit-Baltistan, and 133 from Azad Kashmir.
To further strengthen national cyber defense and digital security, the monitoring system also includes 119 private sector websites and 44 banking sector platforms, expanding protection across key financial and institutional digital networks in Pakistan.
