This week at DMS, the children have been immersed in block work. Unit blocks are a powerful learning material that supports early math, spatial reasoning, problem solving, design thinking, and teamwork. They are irresistible to children across ages. Toddlers pick them up and put them down, balance and stack them, line them up, and use their whole bodies to explore. Older children use them to create elaborate builds with sophisticated structural designs and combine them with other materials to support their vision. In every stage of development, block work reveals a child’s unique way of thinking and making sense of their world. Cheers to the power of simple wooden blocks and children eager to learn!
