Thanks to those who signed the petition a while back also.

( ) HB 27 would provide a chance of resentencing for those convicted of a crime where a judge overrode the jury’s recommended sentence. Until 2017, judges in Alabama could override the sentencing recommendations of juries, up to and including the imposition of the death penalty.

( ) HB 30 would require the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles to adhere to the guidelines the policy council created, while still allowing the Board to deny parole so long as they publicly state their reasons for the denial.

The legislation would also allow those who have been denied parole to appeal the Board’s decision to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.
