In honor of , we are excited to share our latest NCI data brief looking at people with disabilities and older adults who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid.
We often think of Medicare as health insurance for only those 65 and older, but people with disabilities who are under 65 can sometimes qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. When this happens, they are referred to as having “dual eligibility.” Nearly 13 million people qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid.
Although not everyone who is dual eligible ends up enrolling in both Medicare and Medicaid, having two sources of healthcare coverage can help cover more costs and services; but, this can sometimes present challenges for care coordination.
This brief showcases the unique needs of the dual eligible population in order to help states better coordinate access to services for these groups of people. Stay tuned for more highlights from the brief! (link in comments)
