This is such a wonderful article on the Intersection of Public Art and Public Health, written by Mary McGuire of the Michigan Fitness Foundation.
We are huge believers that art changes everything, and that includes our health. When working with cities for public spaces we are often asked how art will help their communities. Public art can bring economic growth, create placemaking and spur conversations with others. Public art is what attracts us to many cities around the world (think Paris, or Rome for example). Public art adds so much culture to our communities. It honestly can change the was we think about the world.
Mary, thank you for sharing your thoughts on how art can change our health too!
The Intersection of Public Art and Public Health Part I - MFF Research tells us that public art sparks curiosity, reduces stress, provides a sense of community, and makes a positive impact on the health and well-being of the everyday citizens that interact with it. The intersection between public health and public art isn’t hard to find, it is all around us.
