Valentino knows what it feels like to be forgotten.

He was found wandering the streets of Detroit in freezing temperatures, trying to survive on his own.

Cold. Unsure if anyone was ever coming for him.

When we finally trapped Valentino and brought him to safety, we discovered he was heartworm positive. Once again, he had another battle ahead of him.

But just like so many resilient dogs do...

He fought.

Today, Valentino is healthy, has completed heartworm treatment, and has discovered something he never had before.

Love.

He’s learned that gentle hands bring belly rubs. That people can be trusted. That a warm bed is better than sleeping outside. He’s even completed training and has blossomed into an incredible companion.

Valentino is calm, affectionate, house-trained, crate-trained, and happiest when he’s simply near his people. He would thrive in a home with another dog to help him continue building confidence, and a fenced yard where he can finally run free instead of wondering where he’ll sleep.

The hardest part of Valentino’s story isn’t what happened to him.

It’s that after everything he’s overcome...

He’s still waiting.

Waiting for the family who will never let him wonder if he’s loved again.

Poppy is running out of time.

Through no fault of her own, her foster is leaving for vacation and can’t take her. Unless someone steps up, this sweet girl has nowhere to go.

She’s only about a year old, weighs 38 pounds, and she’s the kind of dog everyone says they’re looking for.
