No one makes the world move like Detroit! 🌎❗️

Detroit created Jit, our city’s iconic street footwork style that was born in the 70s. Built by Detroit residents and carried forward through generations of Detroit dancers, when you see Jit you see Detroit.

Join us and Detroit’s Ambassador of Sound and Swag DJ Killa $quid as we place the spotlight on our iconic footwork with Detroit’s Queen of Jit, Gabrielle McLeod .

Gabby has been jitting for almost 20 years. In her work to push Detroit and Jit culture, Gabby has traveled to and taught Jit in Africa, Paris, and France, as well as taught at universities across the country and been featured on platforms including Red Bull and Forbes Magazine.

Part of , Gabby’s mission is to shine a light on our footwork culture and educate future generations about Detroit Jit.

Started in 2019, House of Jit is a collective group of artists specializing in Jit. You’ll see them everywhere across the city, from being the dancers and choreographers for the Detroit Pistons Jit Team , to being in music videos, to performing at Movement Music Festival and so much more.

And Jit is not a trend dance. This is not something that came and went. It’s just getting started. Detroit has the best footwork and you need to come see it.

Here we go! Introducing Detroit’s very own Rainbow Road 🌈🏁⭐🍄

Opened in May 2023, the Southwest Greenway runs just over half a mile along a former rail corridor, connecting Detroit’s iconic Michigan Central to Detroit’s new 22-acre park Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park!

By day, it’s one of Detroit’s newest paths for walking, biking and rolling between Corktown, Mexicantown, Southwest Detroit and the Detroit Riverfront. By night, colorful lights turn it into a real-life Rainbow Road. 🌃🚲🍌

The lighting magic comes from Yazmin Dababneh and her YayaLand Takeover IV art installation, a light-based installation that uses dichroic film and color along the greenway. 🌈✨

Also at the Bagley Mobility Hub, Patrick Ethen’s light installation fills the south-facing stairwell with slow-moving neon patterns, creating a glowing wall that can be seen from both inside and outside the building. ⭐

The greenway also features several other public art pieces, including work by Senghor Reid and The Yard Graffiti Museum. The Southwest Greenway is also part of the broader 27.5-mile Joe Louis Greenway, tying the Detroit Riverwalk, Dequindre Cut and neighborhood pathways into a growing loop through Detroit, Hamtramck, Highland Park and Dearborn.

You can also ride it all the way to other Detroit attractions like Belle Isle and Eastern Market. 🌳🌿

Share this with the Mario lover in your life and we’ll see you on the greenway! 🏁
