People can get ensnared and entrapped in many subtle ways. They join churches and organizations and "follow" others in hopes of finding a place of belonging. We can be hurt in the places that we thought were the safest. The security of our home can be quickly broken down and the environment can turn unhealthy. Divorce, abuse, and other major family disorders leave very deep wounds. No one wants to address the problem or focus on the sin....just muddle on through. Keep family secrets at home. Many have suppressed their intense pain that they are out of touch with the reality of it. It's not unheard of that that authority figures such as pastors, sheriffs, teachers, etc have abused and neglected innocent people. People are actually shocked by it. "I thought he was a man of God". Sin is a serious condition that destroys lives. It's an inherited "sickness" that people like to keep very well hidden.
We need to see the seriousness of our condition. Only our faith in God can make us well. Cursed is the one who trusts in man. Because of sin, you just cannot have whole hearted confidence in the people you thought were the safest. They can leave you in bad shape. Sin is a fact that can leave you torn with grief. God welcomes those who are broken in spirit. Jesus makes us free from the sting of death that sin causes, but we are not free from sin itself. The presence of sin is within. A legion of sins can resurface and bring us back to self condemnation or caught up in the outbursts of anger in others. Some breath out their depravity slowly and quietly where it is barely noticeable to others....but, "they will let you have it when you get home".
There is a principle of evil within that threatens our well being. How in the world can we ignore it? The only way is to stop relying on the nature of humanity. Only in Jesus can we find remission for sins. The power of indwelling sin is in humanity. It threatens our health and well being. It's a horrible disease that won't go away if we ignore it. Leave all for Jesus. God gets us to the place where we can say, "See, we have left all and followed You". To follow Jesus is to stay fixed on Him. He is our place of belonging and security. God is love. We belong to Him.
