After being in the business for 40 years, I never dreamed this would happen to us.
Sent a check to our vendor in Kankakee IL, they never received it. (I didn't think too much about it, mail gets lost all the time) did the bank reconciliation and someone had stolen the check-out of mail, altered for $12,101.33 took it to their bank, and cashed, (this all happened in Chicago) FYI original check was for $480.53. you could clearly see the check had been altered. Why are these people getting away with this? Why are not the big banks calling the businesses of these large amounts to make sure they are real.
So, all your business owners out there be aware of this going around. Check your bank accounts daily. Totally be aware of your money at all times!!!
