Hydra. Draconian twins or triplets become Hydras when they transform. They can come from any Dragon-descended clan, and are taken from their parents at a young age. Their wings, though Dragon-sized, are not strong enough to allow their massive bodies to fly, relegating them to being a servant clan.

Drake. Four-legged, no wings. Originally descended from deformed Dragons who lost their wings. Now, though they are a servant clan, they enjoy many privileges as Dragons' closest relatives.

Cockatrice. Winged and feathered but poor flyers. Created from the long-ago union of the Great Rooster and a daughter of the Dragon Emperor, Cockatrices are the most reviled of Draconian clans. Despite their low status, their tenacity and cunning has kept the clan alive, and they have carved out a small, miserable piece of Dorohin as their own.

Quetzalcoatl (Qet for short)
Winged, but no other limbs. Brought about by a Dragon Emperor's union to the Great Macaw from over the sea, Qets are the most beautiful of Draconian creatures with a rainbow array of feathers. They have a fierce rivalry with both Amps and Cockatrices.

Amphithere (Amp for short)
Winged but lacking any other limbs, they are descended from a degenerative line of Wyverns. They are the fastest of any Draconian species in the air.

Lindwurm
Half-Wyvern, half-Wyrm, or put another way: one-quarter Dragon, three-fourths Wyrm. As a result, they have lost their wings and are stuck to the ground. This disability has relegated them to a servant class, but unlike Wyrms, they are frequently used as soldiers. They are to Wyverns what Wyverns are to Dragons.

Wyvern
Half-Dragon, half-Wyrm, the first of the Dragon clan's half-breeds. Through loyalty to their Dragon superiors, they have secured a place near the top of the Draconian hierarchy, at the cost of being a permanent buffer of blood between Dragons and vengeful Ryus.

Wyrm
No legs, no wings, relatively defenseless despite their size. Wyrms are a servant clan to almost every other clan in Dorohin. They are the only other clan tolerated by Ryus due to being pureblooded.

Ryu
Four-legged, long serpentine body, no wings, flies with the power to manipulate air itself and can channel lightning. They are the previous ruling clan of Dorohin before being unseated by Dragons. The two have been bitter rivals ever since.

Continuing with the new Draconian drawings, here is the Dragon.
Four-legged, winged, rulers of Dorohin, and the progenitors of all half-breeds.

My wife (my illustrator) has been working on new digital illustrations of the Draconian clans. Here's the old charcoal version of the Divine Serpent next to the new digitally illustrated one.

Future plans update. I'm currently working on the 2nd draft of the sequel to The Eye of the Moon (Tenebria #1). It was meant to be finished by now, but I've been discontent with the middle section of the book and rewriting a lot. Getting pneumonia in April also wasn't great. The optimistic release window for it is probably either late this year or early 2026.
