NEWBORN SESSION TIPS:

// Reach out to your photographer during your pregnancy, around the second trimester. I like to get your due date on my calendar and then we’ll solidify a specific date and time once babe arrives.

// Dress is neutral or earthy tones. These colors are always the most timeless and photograph really well. Those soft, creamy, tones are the best!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
// Try to feed your baby shortly before your session. This way they’ll have a full tummy and hopefully be getting sleepy. However, babies are unpredictable, so if you have to feed them during that session that’s alright too. I’m a momma, so I understand the unpredictability, hormones, and all that newborn entails. We’ll just go with the flow of your babe.

// Babies typically photograph best swaddled or in a snug sleeper. This way they feel warm and cozy and allows me to slowly unwrap them so that we can see their little features such as fingers and toes.

// I like to photograph in your home wherever has the best natural light, typically the living room, nursery and/or master bedroom. Don’t feel like you need to clean your whole home, I’ve done sessions in one little corner and created beautiful images. Just trust your photographer with this one!

// Your photos are about your connection and savoring these moments with your baby. Relax and enjoy this time. I’ll give suggestions and help with posing in order to get the best angles, but more than anything I just want to give you time to breathe in these newborn days. Stare at your little babe, sway with them, give them kisses, and stroke their little face. Babies don’t keep forever.

I want you to look at your photos and say with a grin, “That’s totally us!”

Not in the obvious way that, yes, you are the ones in the photographs. But in a way that truly means I caught a glimpse of your meaning behind “us.”

Your version of “us” is unique. You have flirtatious looks, sweet nudges, special things you enjoy together, that capture who you are as a couple or family. The way you connect! I approach your story looking for those special moments.

One of the best parts of being a mom is savoring every bit of this season, while anticipating watching your baby in his new role as big brother. You can’t wait for it all to change, and yet, you want to wrap up these moments to come back to again and again.

Seriously, it’s not lost on me the privilege it is to be invited into your lives to help you remember. One of the best parts of being a photographer, documenting bride and groom became Mom and Dad again.

Is there a better way to wait for baby sis… a picnic with your favorite people + pastries, surrounded by tulips.
