The 20 Things I Wish Someone Told Me at 20 As college doors start to swish and swing open, slurping young people back in for fall classes, I feel compelled to put my hand up and say, "Wait, you forgot something."

I was asked yesterday, how have I been able to come up with so many successful methods and ideas inside and outside of sports? My answer is that when questions and ideas come up, I feel the ideas and questions are worth every consideration. Ideas should not be discarded, ignored or discounted and I personally try not to. To many great things that are waiting to be discovered, invented and dreams that are waiting to become destiny, won't become reality if we just let every thought be dismissed. As well, our time spent becoming educated would become less useful to ourselves and society if we don't put a positive value on our own ideas and thoughts.

Cancer will be cured one day because an educated individual will have a thought that will flash in their mind for just a second and that person won't just put it away, they'll follow through and see that their education is not wasted and all society will benefit!

In my time in school, I never had a full comprehension of the value of what I was being given. Even after receiving a college degree I didn't see the full scope. Now it shocks me what my education allows and assists me with everyday to be better at what I do. In a quick capsule I'll mention some of the classes I took that I use each day teaching, educating, writing, inventing and playing professional sports!

A million times in every grade, I sat many days bored to death thinking I would never use any of these skills in my life playing left field for the Detroit Tigers. I was just going to hire a good accountant. Now I find it totally ironic I use skills from these classes everyday without fail.

I'm very thankful today for all who took part in my education and success. To my students yesterday who asked this question, I hope this is a more complete answer. In keeping with my thought that there is a Rhyme and Reason for most everything we do and everything I teach, I hope this gives you some insight to what you were asking about.
