Here is an older painting from the series Post Traumatic Stress Disorder titled Down by the River. Back in 1999, I created an entire exhibition focused on people and places connected to traumatic memories. After painting each figure and scene, I then masked them out, obscuring their presence. The works were divided into two categories: Blur Outs and Black Outs.

One of my favorite stories happened during the opening of that exhibition. Throughout my career, I have a long history of someone telling me at every opening that my work is not very good or “sucks.” At this particular show, every painting had sold except one. A man stood in front of it and told me that he really loved my work and thought I was very talented, although he believed this specific piece was not very good and should not have been included. At that moment, Jennifer Hope walked up and said she wanted to buy the painting. The man looked surprised and remarked that some people must have different tastes. I replied, “Some people have good taste, and some people have bad taste.”

Hey everyone!
Just finished a new painting — “Mickey Mouse,” 3’ x 4’. I’ll let you guess why it’s called that. This piece continues my exploration of figural elements in an exciting new way, and I’m really pleased with how it turned out.
