🌟 Clinician Spotlight: Kira Colgan, MS, LMFT 🌟

Kira Colgan’s path to mental health work was shaped early by family, language, and service. With both parents working in mental health, her inspiration came close to home. Her mother served as a social worker in Los Angeles public schools, while her father, a clinical psychologist, dedicated his career to supporting Spanish speaking refugee communities. Kira even began learning Spanish alongside her father as a preschooler, including living with a host family in Mexico at just five years old. Those early experiences helped guide her to the work she does today, supporting students at two bilingual schools through Centus.

What Kira loves most about her work is listening to stories. Known in her family as the “family historian,” she has always been someone who wanted to truly know people and remember their experiences. That passion continues with her clients, each one bringing a new story and opportunity for growth. After 11 years at Escuela de Guadalupe, Kira feels deeply connected to the school community and now finds herself attending Quinceañeras for students she once knew as kindergarteners.

Some of her most meaningful moments come when former students reach out after graduating. One especially powerful reminder of why she does this work arrived in the form of a handwritten note from a former student who had been quiet during sessions. Years later, the student shared how much their work together had helped her through a difficult time. Kira has kept that note as a reminder that even when progress is not visible, therapeutic support can be life changing.

Outside of work, Kira enjoys being active and spending time outdoors with her family. She met her husband skiing and now loves watching their kids fall in love with the sport that first brought them together. She also enjoys cooking and time at home with her family.

This year, Kira is excited to expand her work even further. After more than a decade at Escuela de Guadalupe, she is now serving at two schools and looks forward to continuing to build strong relationships at Newlon Elementary while deepening her collaboration with that community.

We are grateful for Kira’s dedication, heart, and lasting impact on the school communities she serves. 💙

April is Alcohol Awareness Month, a time to recognize how alcohol misuse affects not just physical health but emotional and mental well being. At Centus, we see every day how alcohol misuse often emerges from underlying struggles—stress, anxiety, trauma, or feeling emotionally overwhelmed. Counseling can play a crucial role in helping people understand their relationship with alcohol, build coping strategies, and develop healthier patterns.

💙 You don’t have to navigate change alone. Centus counselors are here to support emotional wellness, strengthen resilience, and help you pursue a healthier, balanced life.
