Etchmiadzin Cathedral, the first built in and considered the oldest cathedral in the world, symbolizes the beginning of as a religion. Armenia became the first nation to adopt Christianity as its official religion in 301 A.D. With the Christianization of Armenia, all of the many temples and statues of Goddess Anahit, the of , and , were destroyed.
