While in Bozeman, I enjoyed good food, locally distilled bourbon, the American Computer & Robotics Museum, and getting to talk with executives about marketing. Big take-away: the ability to tie marketing budget to results without advanced calculus is important and my method for doing that opened a lot of eyes.

❓How do you manage your marketing team so that you don’t waste time and/or resources?

✅ Make sure that you are clear about who is doing what and when.

At estound, we believe teams should include someone who can 1️⃣ ENVISION goals that support the company mission 2️⃣ DIRECT the marketing process to get everyone on the same page 3️⃣ EVALUATE successes/failures and apply that data to current work 4️⃣ EXECUTE the plan through tactics and converting leads to closed sales.

Your marketing team should be able to do these things whether it’s one person or many. If you find that members of your team are wearing multiple hats – juggling responsibilities – remember the four things listed above and have clear direction for how to execute your plan.

Whichever hat YOU’RE WEARING should match what the situation calls for – the one that is most helpful to the part of the process your team is working on. Besides, you don’t want to be the one wearing a beanie in the middle of the summer, do you?

Every year Development Dimensions International (DDI) releases a report tracking trends in leadership and C-Suite professionals. The report, known as the Global Leadership Forecast, researches management and the development of their leadership skills – both positive and negative.

I came across their 2023 report recently, which described an expressed desire by many top level managers for a CEO-level peer group. This felt super relevant for me since I just wrote last month about my own experience with peer groups and the lifeline they have been for me.
