Wisteria typically bloom in late April to early May in Japan. These wisteria are next to Byodoin in Uji, a former villa turned into a Buddhist temple in the 11th century. These wisteria are over 200 years old. Wysteria was originally planted here by the Fujiiwara clan, a powerful family that dominated Japanese court politics from the 7th century to the 11 century. The first part of their name (Fujii) translates to wysteria. , , ,
