Zion I Crew I feel like I can barely breathe after hearing the news the morning of the 14th from friends and family calling my phone, I am still in disbelief that we’re not walking the same earth within these last few days. Stunned feeling as if my heart is filled with concrete knowing we won’t be able to talk with one another about life anymore, create more stunningly artistic music, or see one another in Oakland. The thought has been paralyzing to say the least. I was talking with you a week and a half ago, just doesn’t seem real.

Zumbi “Steve Gaines” Baba Zumbi, I found your music when I was about to turn 13 in the Bay Area, at this point in life my family was splitting in different directions and I felt lost. Was a bass player in a band and spend my time and holidays at the skate park. I heard your song with , , and you on a rollerblading movie hanging with some friends and who would have thought it would change my life forever.

As years progressed I went from being in a band as a drummer to transitioning into hip hop. Recorded 6 albums and performed at shows countless times. Had the great pleasure of working with /recording music together with Zumbi of Zion I and would have never dreamed in a million years I would have worked with one of my greatest idols of my entire life. We kept in contact and talked often about life, family, and music. You are the greatest artist in my mind, have inspired me for well over ten years and continue to do so. An amazing poet, immensely creative music artist, and an indisputably great father leading his three sons threw life. I am so honored for any time shared creating with you. Will miss you dearly and see you in the great beyond my fam. Rest easy baba Zumbi.
