If simply existing in public is considered ‘pushing an agenda,’ then what does that say about the messages we accept without question? If a rainbow flag is 'forcing beliefs,' then perhaps all flags and slogans that are not the National 50 star, 13 stripe American flag should be banned. If one is an attack, why isn’t the other?"

During this Pride month, let's hold space for our trans/nonbinary teens and young adults whose identities were previously validated, then cancelled by the current administration. 🌈 June 17 is LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day — a reminder that pay inequity can be harder to name when the data itself is incomplete.

The U.S. Census Bureau does not currently collect the full information needed to provide specific, official pay gap data for LGBTQIA+ workers. But a lack of data does not mean a lack of harm.
Pay discrimination, gatekeeping, and a lack of diversity in leadership affect q***r people — including q***r artists — every day. 🎭

In Athena Project’s 2026 survey, 32 respondents — 41% of those who answered the gender identity question — identified as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Among those LGBTQIA+ respondents:

💸 69% said their arts-related work is typically unpaid or underpaid
🚪 41% pointed to opaque or informal hiring, promotion, or pay processes
🏛️ 42% said women and nonbinary artists are not well-represented in leadership within their artistic disciplines
