Upper Mustang, nestled in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, feels like a place caught between past and present. Once part of the ancient Kingdom of Lo, this region is shaped by its Tibetan heritage, from the traditional stone villages to the intricate monasteries that dot the landscape. Lo Manthang, the walled capital, was established in the 14th century and still retains its unique character with its labyrinth of narrow alleys and timeless architecture.

The high desert terrain is marked by dramatic red and orange cliffs, deep gorges, and a landscape that has been sculpted over centuries by wind and water. With its rugged beauty and isolation, Upper Mustang remains one of the last bastions of a way of life that has endured for generations. It’s a place where the past lingers, and the vastness of the Himalayas meets the stark, quiet beauty of the Tibetan Plateau.
