Janice McDonald Studio

Another of the collages from my recent exhibition, “Do/Process”… Initially provoked by the sudden disregard for due process, recent collage works reflect an attempt to record, explore, and make visible my concerns about this moment in time. The work of doing and processing in the studio has become an act of hope, resolve, and quiet resistance.

I made this piece to mark the violent murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti earlier this year in Minneapolis. Their killings were tragically all too real but, in the moment when I watched what happened, it felt impossible, like footage from some horrible, violent movie… which eventually brought to mind the correlation to a candy name that might be eaten in a theater, during a terrifyingly dark film, were this all to be simply a work of fiction…

My submission for Warsaw Collage Central’s call for their upcoming “Art is Contact” exhibition is currently on its way to Poland for a June 12 opening. Thanks to for the encouragement.
