Most adults have never had a clinical genetic evaluation — and for up to 10% of the population living with a genetic disorder, that absence of answers takes a toll.

Many are living with undiagnosed conditions or unexplained symptoms, and no clear direction. A referral to a geneticist can change that. Clinical genetic evaluation gives primary care providers vital diagnostic information and offers patients meaningful insight into what’s actually going on.

Red flags worth discussing with your doctor include conditions that appear earlier than expected, develop without standard risk factors or show up across multiple family members. A family history of cancer, cardiovascular disease or neurological conditions is also reason to consider a referral.

If something hasn't added up despite repeated testing, genetics may have the answer.

Genetic testing that once felt out of reach is now a routine part of family planning — and it’s giving couples a clearer picture before they ever make a decision.

Carrier screening identifies whether you carry a genetic mutation that could be passed on to a child. Carriers often have no symptoms and no idea. But when both partners carry a mutation linked to the same disorder, the risk to a child increases — and knowing that changes what’s possible.

A blood or saliva sample is all it takes. Results don’t diagnose a condition in you — they inform the likelihood of passing one on. From there, a genetic counselor can walk you through what the findings mean and what reproductive options make sense.

If you have a family history of a genetic disorder or come from an ethnic background with higher rates of certain conditions, carrier screening is worth discussing with your physician.
