I connected to Circe’s solitude and self-reflection, something that resonates deeply with my own journaling practice. Her story reminded me how much growth can happen when you are left alone to listen to yourself. 5 Stars and on my Favorites List!

The Light Eaters is about plant “behavior” and how Darwin’s theories of individuals fighting for resources are becoming debunct. Not fully, but partially. Plants aren’t just out there fighting for survival in some brutal, every-organism-for-itself showdown. They’re constantly in conversation with the world around them. They send chemical signals to other plants, notice who’s growing nearby, remember what’s happened before, and adjust accordingly. What the author shows so clearly is that this way of seeing life—as separate, self-contained, and alone—isn’t natural. It’s a story we’ve told ourselves, and it’s a story that has warped how we understand what it means to be alive.
